🚩 Red Flags in the Scam Email
| Email appears to be from @dcs.gov.za, but it’s spoofed | Scammers frequently forge government emails to look legitimate. |
| No official tender listing on etenders.gov.za | All real South African tenders are listed publicly. |
| Encourages supply of items outside your company’s scope | This is a hallmark tactic to get you to outsource to a fake supplier. |
| Provides fake phone number and procurement officer name (Phumzile Mabene) | These identities are often fabricated or stolen from public directories. |
| Reference Number “DCSNO52025” not verifiable anywhere | Real RFQ numbers are traceable on eTenders. |
🛑 How the Scam Works
You receive a fake RFQ email asking for urgent supply.
You’re encouraged to outsource items and supply a quote.
The scammer will direct you to a fraudulent “supplier”.
You pay the supplier upfront.
They vanish — and you're left with a financial loss.
✅ Stay Safe and Protect Your Business
Always check tenders on the National Treasury eTender Portal.
Never trust supplier details sent via unsolicited tender requests.
Contact the department directly using official contact info on www.dcs.gov.za.
Do not reply to emails encouraging outsourcing to unknown third parties.
